ADRIAN RASO - Guitar

The sound of newspapers semi-accurately hitting the doorstep targets, thrown by a 13 year-old who would soon come across his first guitar on this route - an acoustic (gasp!) - at a neighbourhood garage sale. Abandoning his paper route, unaware that he had
left readers yearning for news of the day, he madly dashed home and desperately, yet with stern determination, asked his parents for the $7 needed to purchase this guitar. Already tuned into the musical genius of Prince and having already been denied, at the age of 10, the right to buy the album ?Dirty Mind? due to its mature content, Adrian was not going to let this opportunity slip him by. Handing over the $7 and taking the guitar home, he spent the next couple of years meticulously and systematically studying music with a drive and inspiration that only comes when true, explosive and unparalleled talent exists. Helped along only by musical theory books, regular trips to the University library, and the odd instructional video tape, Adrian began to emerge on the music scene in Guelph as a guitar virtuoso and has released several electric albums, including Supersonic Music Man (1999), Adrian Raso (2001), and Electric Medusa (2004).   His first acoustic album, Black Mamba (2005) was incredibly well-received and prompted the release of his second all-acoustic CD, Tales of a Travelling Bohemian (2006).  Adrian's fascination with Gypsy Swing music resulted in his 3rd acoustc CD, C'est La Vie (2007).

Able to keep the keen interest of a technically minded musician with track such as "Alexander's Lydian Fantasy" while at the same time dropping the jaws of those merely interested in hearing exceptionally great music, Adrian seamlessly blends a masterful technique with accessible melodies. More apt to embrace all that is dark, macabre, shadowy, and slightly perculiar, Adrian also infuses his music with some quirkiness that's either apparent in his song titles (e.g., "Swing the Bizarre", "Niccolo the Vampire", or "Massacre", for example") or simply in the highly charged, fast-paced tempos that challenge even the best of drummers to keep time, polyrhythmic or otherwise.
